5 Things You Need to Know About Dental Implants Treatment

Missing teeth are a problem for many people, but it doesn't have to be a permanent issue. With our dental implants in London, you can conveniently and safely replace lost teeth and restore your natural smile.

What are Dental Implants?

When a tooth is removed surgically, the entire root has to be taken out. Dental implants are used so the tooth can be replaced with a prosthetic one. The implants are titanium posts that are are placed into your jawbone acting as a ‘root’ to support a false tooth. The procedure can take anywhere between 3-9 months.

Will I Need Bone Grafting?

Bone grafting is used when you don't have necessary bone density. A bone graft can create a solid base to support the implant, so it can withstand the pressure of chewing. Your dentist will determine if you need bone grafting.

Types of Implants

  • Same Day Implants

These implants are implanted and topped with a temporary crown. The implant will fuse to your bone and should be complete within only three months. If you've had a bone graft, you will not be a suitable candidate for Same Day Implants.

  • Full Arch

If you've lost an entire row of top or bottom teeth, you may be suitable for a full arch implant – either placed as a bridge or as individual teeth. You will be able to wear temporary crowns up until you're ready for the procedure.

  • Implant anchored Bridge

If you've lost several teeth. an implant bridge is a good alternative to a traditional bridge. Depending on how many teeth need replacing you could have two implants topped with three or four crowns. Unlike a traditional bridge, implant bridges are a permanent, safe solution.

  • About the Procedure

At your free consultation you will have an in depth discussion with your dentist about your treatment options. Treatment will be thoroughly explained and your queries answered. A 3D scan or other investigative procedures may also be carried out. This entire initial process is without obligation.

Once you are happy with the treatment plan, your implants will usually be placed in the same appointment. You may choose to be sedated for your comfort with minimal after effects. We recommend that you bring someone to accompany you home.

  • What About Insurance?

Many insurance providers cover some of or the total cost of dental implants. Talk to your insurance company to find out what they cover.
